Hi! So my pharmacy recently REALLY screwed up my birth control plan to the point I couldn’t start till Thursday when I needed to start it last Sunday. I talked to my mom and she told me I should probably just start it with this Sunday instead since I’d be taking like 2 pills per day to catch up. I just wanna know if I’m doing the right thing by starting it back up today instead of doing the 2 pills a day to catch up.

just start whenever you get the pills and make that your new start date. you’ll be unprotected until you’ve taken 8 pills on time in a row. there is no point in taking 2 per day, that doesn’t do anything but give you too much hormones and you’d probably get heightened side effects. where did you hear that you’re supposed to do that?

Well when I called the pharmacy and asked before I had to start it again they originally said it would be there Tuesday, I called again and asked and that’s when they said Thursday but the original plan was if jt came on Tuesday I would take Sunday and Mondays pills that Tuesday then Tuesday and Wednesdays pills on Wednesday. I’ve just never had to wait so long to take my pills before because they’ve always come in on time. So I was just wondering what I needed to do to kinda plan ahead and get back on schedule

i see. specific pills don’t need to be taken on specific days, there’s no such thing as a “wednesday pill” or anything like that. that’s why birth control packs have different days of the week labels. your old schedule doesn’t matter at all since you have to start over now. if you want to use the same sunday start you had before, just wait to start on the sunday after you get your pills. the only time you should ever take two pills at once is if you miss one day and take both the next day. that doesn’t apply when you’ve missed more than one day. if you miss more than one day, you start over protection-wise. just take one pill per day, you don’t “get back on schedule,” you have a new schedule and are unprotected for a week no matter what.

Taking two pills a day won’t change anything. Take one pill a day. If you want to get back to your old schedule, you can end your next break week early, however that means you’ll need extra pills and your pharmacy is unreliable so maybe that’s just not an option for you. Any sex you had during the break week was unprotected.

In the future be sure to check your pamphlet as it does have specific instructions on what to do when you miss pills.
