Any of you gotten pregnant on the patch before or know someone? I wanna trust it but since I’ve never been active before on it I would just like to know what my chances are with correct use.

answers to that question won’t lead you to trusting the patch, if someone has fallen pregnant on it they probably weren’t “taking” it right as the instructions told them to, leading to a gap in protection

@onthepillxo I hear from so many people that they’re been using their birth control correctly and pretty much perfectly and still ended up pregnant. Are they just lying then about perfect use? I’m just being paranoid even tho there is no reason since it doesn’t make sense to use birth control if you don’t trust it but there is still a thought in my head that something might go wrong and I might end up pregnant. That’s why I wanted to hear some opinions. But thank you for your response.

i don’t think they’re lying as such, maybe just don’t know what perfect use is, or believe they took it right but didn’t know what actually affects the pills protection. there is also an *extremely* rare genetic problem that causes the pill not to work, and one of the people who have said this could have had this issue, but it is so so so rare and they would have become pregnant almost immediately on the pill.

So is it safe for me to just trust it and go with it without having to worry about getting pregnant (without condom)? It just seems a bit absurd that a patch can actually prevent pregnancy since you just kind of forget it’s there for a whole week. But I appreciate your response it gives me some relief about this. Thank you!

if you feel like you can’t trust your patch it’s honestly not worth the mental stress and i really would recommend using condoms, if you feel you can i’d recommend really reading up on exactly how the patch works and what can cause it not to work, as well as your usage window etc. literally become a walking dictionary for your patch so there’s no way anything can go wrong.

I researched a lot about it and I read the instructions a couple times just to make sure. I’m pretty sure I’m using it correctly. The only thing that gives me a bit of a headache is just things that could interfere with it. I know specific antibiotics can interfere and certain herbs. And then the other day I read that grapefruit can also interfere with it. Now I also started using a medication called Actair which is supposed to help me with my dust mite allergy. I asked my doctor if it will interfere with anything else and he said no but I’m not sure. It’s like all kind of things could interfere with it and I just want to be careful but lack of information makes it difficult.

Grapefruit does interact with birth control but not in the way you think. Interactions does not automatically mean ineffective. Grapefruit can heighten the side effects of birth control, it doesn’t mean anything in regards to effectiveness. Definitely keep using condoms until you’ve educated yourself further. I’d go as far as being able to answer your own questions with confidence before considering anything else.

@Yi_eune I see how you think I meant it with the grapefruit thing. What I meant was that there are just so many things that can have an influence on your birth control. I mentioned the thing with the grapefruit cause some people were debating on it on Reddit and how it makes the birth control more ineffective. I did my research on it too and im not saying it will make it less effective but I meant that there are just a lot of things that can mess it up and obviously the outcome doesn’t always have to be that it doesn’t work that well anymore. Topic on birth control and sex were never something that was talked about in my household and still isn’t being talked about even tho I’m an adult. Since having sex was never even something for me to consider and because I was using the pill and the patch later on for my irregular periods I just wanted to get some opinions on it and how efficient it really is to use and if anyone got pregnant because of something they used or did. I appreciate your answer tho I’ll keep that in mind.
