I have 2 job offers and I don’t know which one to take! A lovely but also stressful situation to be in haha. Job 1 - decent wage, however they require me to change under their visa/sponsorship (I am an expat/immigrant and currently under my husbands visa) so it’s a bit risky changing, costing me a lot as well, job doesn’t start until end of October so likely won’t be paid until end of November. The school has some questionable reviews online so it worries me a bit but I am also not teaching staff so it could be okay. Job 2 - a really good school, better hours than the first job, don’t have to change visa, starts next month, lower salary than the first job. Luckily my husband pays rent etc but it would still be nice to have more money of course! I don’t know if it’s worth the risk for more money. If it ended up being a bad job then changing back visa could possibly be a logistical nightmare. Or do I try and ask job 2 for slightly more money? I’d prefer job 2 as it’s a really good school the only downside is the money

I think would avoid changing visas as much as possible, keep it safe. Also I would want to start a job ASAP, October is a LONG time away when you’ve nothing to keep you occupied.

@bluerose9 My thoughts as well! Just ideally more money would be nice 😅

@d1996 I mean the better hours, getting a whole 3 months more work/pay this year and no cost or stress from changing visas are pretty big pros imo

@bluerose9 Absolutely. Think I’d be silly not to accept this offer

I would choose job 2 also. I think it is worth asking them if they could increase the salary a little though unless you were already offered the top end of their range (if advertised) or it is in line with competition for your field & experience

@awg1 I did ask about salary increase and they said the salary is fixed but salary is reviewed every year by the board of governors so could be increased but no guarantee

I would definitely go for job 2. It has more pros and extra money is nice, but money isn't everything. You need to be happy with what you do everyday and if you are miserable, extra money isn't worth it. Seems like job 2 can get increase in pay in time, so there is room for more money. Maybe not as much as 1, but like I said more pros to job 2 that to me outweigh the money aspect. I wouldn't want to be messing with your visa and going through the hassle of changing back if you quit the job. Good luck!
