You are protected as the level of hormones builds up in your body across the 3 weeks you take the pill, and they last around 7 days, whilst you take placebo pills. Placebo pills are just sugar based, and serve to keep you on track whilst you have your break from the pill/ have your bleed. Hope that explains it xx
