TW: weight Just was wondering if being on a pill for a really long time can impact your weight. I’m just over 2 years I’ve gained 6kg in weight. I’m not really sure if that’s a lot or not and even tho I only weigh 57kg roughly atm I’m just a bit worried if that’s a lot of weight to gain over that period of time. I’m about to turn 22 and I know your body changes as you go into your twenties anyway. I try not to fixate on it too much but I guess I’m just looking for some reassurance on whether that’s too much weight to have gained over a 2 year period (from 19-22)

The depo shot is the only hormonal contraception method that has been proven to directly influence weight. The others may affect weight indirectly through appetite changes or water retention. You definitely gain weight getting older in my experience but I think it’s more to do with your life changing. Moving out of home and no longer getting home made meals paid for by someone else for example is a big factor for many. Has much changed in your life in the last two years? Diet, exercise, lifestyle, sleep, water intake, stress levels, alcohol/substance use? I personally was on 3 pill brands with different active ingredients over 7 years and all weight changes I experienced during that time were directly linked to my diet, stress and exercise levels. I’m off the pill now and going off didn’t change my weight.

Over 2 years that's a completely normal and not concerning amount of weight to gain.

That’s completely normal, you won’t keep your teenage body forever. Embrace adulthood
