If the pain is severe and disrupts your daily life, then it's worth contacting your doctor about it. For example, painful periods can be a symptom of endometriosis or other conditions.

I do find that NSAIDs are more effective for cramps/period pain. For example ibuprofen works a lot better for me than paracetamol which literally gives me 0 relief.

I’ve spoken to my doctor about it multiple times and she put me on birth control and told me that’s all she can do even when I’ve gone back she just tells me that’s the way of life

@Bcqueen_ ridiculous and infuriating that you’re being dismissed and ignored, pain is a sign something’s not quite right!! Get a second opinion if possible and keep going back until someone treats you with the respect and seriousness you deserve !!

I agree with above, I also find ibuprofen helps a lot more than paracetamol for that kind of pain. Also hot water bottles are great x

@bluerose9 I completely agree with you about me getting a second opinion well third cause I’ve had a second one and I just got told that’s called being a woman like I know pain is part of it but not to the point it stops me from bending or getting out of bed for like the first 3 days

@Bcqueen_ absolutely that is not normal or acceptable pain levels, crazy how you’re just supposed to put up with that

Have you thought about skipping your break weeks?

I’m not from the UK but if you have acetaminophen, naproxen, or ibuprofen those are generally pretty good, ask your doctor if you can take both acetaminophen and ibuprofen together (where I’m from they make them in capsules with both acetaminophen and ibuprofen) that usually helps even my worst pain. Like stinaaa said, maybe consider skipping your break weeks aswell and find a doctor to take your pain seriously because there may be an underlying cause

I use to take 3 packs then have a break week after a month but I found that it increased my pain as if it was like 3 periods pain in one go and I spoke to my doctor and she said take a break after each one then and that pain is normal

I’ve been skipping for years. I spot maybe once a year. But other than that I never bleed or have any symptoms of my period because I skip it every month. It’s okay to skip. You gotta find yourself a better doctor. x

@Bcqueen_ to an extent yes, but if you’re having really bad pain that’s different, I think it’s hard for people to understand especially if they haven’t felt that pain themselves before. You could just not have a break at all, I’ve had it where the doctor prescribed 4 packs of a 21 day pill and I took them back to back to not have a break at all, but I don’t think your doctor is understanding the amount of pain you’re in because if it’s that bad then somethings wrong

hello! i use midol and from my obgyn i got prescribed 1000 mg ibuprofen so maybe you can talk to your doctor about that as an idea. I would aswell say stay more active on your period not just bed rot because it may help with cramps!
