Do you think I can message a job I left and see if they have any available roles? I moved from UK - Qatar. Struggled to find a job in my field so accepted a teaching assistant position. Then I was offered a lab tech role in a university which was an excellent salary. I accepted but I hate it. I am miserable and it’s only been a week. I know I should give it more time but I just feel like I know it’s not for me which is a real shame. I don’t know if I could reach out to my last role and see if they’d have me back or see if they would have a lab tech role later in the year like they said. I’m stuck I don’t know what to do!

I don’t see any harm in reaching out to them if you know you won’t be happy where you’re working now!

Since it's only been a week since you left, you can message and see if they will take you back or have another job for you. I would rather you do it now since they might not have filled the position than wait later down the road and they fill it and you are really stuck at your current job. You sure you don't want to give it more time? Most jobs are scary and being the new person isn't fun, but you may end up liking it. If you sure it's not for you, then I would try to get your old job back. You have to be happy in what you do. You are at your job lots and if you are miserable, it makes your whole life miserable and you don't want that. So pick something you will be happy with. Money isn't everything. You have to be happy in what you do.

I would message if you still feel the same in another 2 weeks. I do think most people don’t immediately like their job, give it at least 2-3 weeks imo. I personally would give it much longer because in one or two jobs I’ve had I actually have not started my intended job until like 4 months into working there due to training.
