Hi. There are many conflicting opinions and I am not sure what to do. I had to take an antibiotic for a week because I was sick. It is usually recommended to use additional contraceptive methods to the pill(condom)...how long should I continue to use this additional precaution? After how long can I rely solely on the pill again? If anyone knows pls let me know!

Most antibiotics do not interact with your birth control pill. However, knowing myself and how much anxiety I have about a pill failure, I abstained from sex while I was on the antibiotic, and used condoms for a week afterwards. This may be overkill, but I felt safer this way just in case. Then when I took the 7 days (8 pills) correct, I trusted I was back to normal.

How long you’d have to wait can be found in your pamphlet. Most antibiotics don’t affect the pill though, but it’s always best to be safe rather than sorry: check your pamphlet on how long you’d have to use protection for.

Only antibiotics used to treat TB or meningitis affect the pill & it’d take a month to be protected again by the pill

@Vicky295 amoxicillin is what I took. It doesn’t impact the pill, but I took precautions anyway.
