Getting an IUD next week and I’m scarred to death. Mind I’ve had vaginismus before but now I’m cured. If someone has an IUD what was your experience with the insertion?

Be sure to ask about pain management options

^ I called lots of clinics till I found the one with pain management. I was really nervous but I went a lot better than I expected. They measured my cervix with an ultrasound to see which IUD size would be best for me. They numbed me with 2 different meds. And I had some cramps after but all was good. Definitely call this clinic and insist that you want some type of pain management.

@stinaaa what kind of pain management did you use? My doctor said the only thing I can do is take anti inflammatory before and put some lidocaine gel but I fear it won’t help much, like no anesthesia. Btw I’m going to use the Kyleena IUD since is smaller and I haven’t had vaginal birth before ( or any kind of birth😂)

Lidocaine is great. They will be putting the gel correct? If so you’re set. That’s your pain management as it’s a numbing agent. You should be fine with that. Mine was called like hurricane or something. I also got the kyleena.

I had a generally good experience at my insertion. I was advised to take painkillers beforehand so took ibuprofen. They also used numbing cream. The pain was sharp but didn’t last long at all. And then I rested for the rest of the day and had cramps as though I was on my period - so take more painkillers if you can! Overall it’s worth it I’d say for a birth control you don’t have to worry/think about too much :) I got the Kyleena

@magnolia123 thank u!! I’m getting my tomorrow I hope it goes well! I’m really stressed because of my vaginismus history but it calms me down to know some people had an alright experience

@rosadias good luck I hope it goes well for you! Make sure to rest afterwards and not do anything that day maybe watch a comfort show or movie :) Any concerns it’s best to talk to your doctor or nurse and see what they say about previous conditions and the iud x
