I started taking a new brand of birth control this week. This is the first time I have ever switched brands. Because of this my boyfriend and I have been using extra protection. Does anyone know how long we should use extra protection for? I googled and it said about one week but I’m not sure

These details can be found in your new brand’s pamphlet. Have you read it? Because it has instructions on how to swap and remain protected.

@Yi_eune Yes I did and I listened to my doctor as well. My doctor said to use protection “for a while” (whatever that means haha!) meanwhile my pamphlet said one week

@dftba then it is a week, always follow your instructions, remember that a week is 7 full weeks, so 7x24 hours so you will be protected once you take your 8th pill on time.

My doctor tried to tell me a month, then the next time said should’ve been 3 months, then said ALWAYS use backup methods lol. I would follow your pamphlet

@bluerose9 and that’s the people we trust to help with questions, so sad birth control is not priority with doctors. Especially because it also widely used and it’s only getting more and more popular.
