You don’t have real periods on the pill at all, ever, because the (combined) pill stops ovulation and thus you don’t have a natural cycle. Any bleeding you might get during your active pills is breakthrough bleeding. Any bleeding you might get during your break is just withdrawal bleeding which is a side effect of the drop in hormones. What you’re experiencing is breakthrough bleeding, it’s a very normal side effect of the pill that can happen at any time.

Yes. Any bleeding while on active pills is breakthrough bleeding, a common side effect of birth control.

@Tammy2345 no you do not get a real natural period on hormonal birth control, as @newtonian said.

Any bleeding during your active pills is break through bleeding. Break through bleeding is a side effect of the pill. Break through bleeding is completely normal. Break through bleeding can occur at anytime for any length of time no matter how long you have been on your brand. You mentioned that it’s your first time taking birth control. When you start a brand your body needs to adjust to being on the birth control brand. There is a 3-6 month adjustment period. If after the adjustment period you are still not happy with the brand you are on you can go back to your doctor and ask to be put on another brand. Know that every time you change your brand your body will need to adjust to the new brand which is another 3-6 month adjustment period.
