Can i or should i use cold sore products even if i don’t have one? Like the gels and stuff. (Just too anxious of getting one).

No...? They’re not preventative as far as I know

Cold sores can sometimes be triggered by stress or eating certain foods for some people, so you can help prevent them by de-stressing, eating a good variety of healthy foods, and avoiding your trigger foods if you have any

They’re not preventative. I would take a daily lysine supplement if you get them often and want to try to help prevent them.

@Tiff10 i take lysine (500mg, 2 tablets) almost every day. But i wouldn’t want to be dependable on them. Just wanted to see a different option because i read it’s not super recommended to use them for over a year.

@Cru123_ besides lysine the only other things are to do like @aurielle said and watch what you eat (some foods trigger it and others can be helpful, like foods that just naturally have lysine in them like yogurt, fish, fruits) also managing stress like she said. Hormone changes can cause them (ex: some are more prone during their periods). Having a healthy immune system helps and keeping your lips safe from sunlight and cold temps can help, I think they even make chapsticks that are meant to help moisturize lips to prevent cold sores (not sure if it works or not). But even just a Chapstick with SPF in it can be helpful I believe. If none of that works and you get them pretty often, you could also talk to a doctor and get put on antiviralscru123_

If you feel it tingling you can apply it so it doesn't get too bad but there's no point using it if you don't feel one coming on.
