I got the first food poisoning in my life today and ugh. I have never had such a bad diarrhoea, I didn’t count but it probably was about 6-8 watery stools. I am on 5th day of my break week. Is there any way that it could effect my protections status?

Nope you’re not taking any pills so it can’t effect the absorption of the pill

@han_x yep the pill is absorbed into your blood stream in the small intestines. When you have severe diarrhoea it may not become absorbed because instead it gets excreted out as faeces instead. But if you’re not taking any pills then there’s nothing that cannot be absorbed in the first place!

Please use another form of protection just to be safe. If you have your pills instruction sheet it should tell you what to do but if in doubt use protection!

@emily11 well to says to take another pill but it seems ridiculous to take pill in the middle of your break week and then do not. Also if diarrhea can effect pill taken 4-5 days ago every time we have diarrhoea during the active pill week we should account for four/five pills?

@babilon ^ no you don’t need to take another pill just carry on with your break week. You’re still protected as you’re not taking any pills atm so diarrhoea won’t affect anything

No diarrhoea will only affect active pills taken within 24 hours of the episode. As you’re not taking active pills you’re fine at the moment, if it continues into the start of your new pack that’s when you will need to account for it.
