So i may just take my iud out. My skin is just getting more little bumps and White heads and painful ones. It sucks to go from clear skin to feeling little bumps everywhere while moisturizing my face. I will also be on 4 weeks on Thursday of heavy bleeding and it sucks. It makes me feel dirty all the time and uncomfortable. When i was in the combination pill everything was constant and I never forgot to take it so I may just start the pill again. I dont know 😭

How long have you had your IUD?

@katara_ one and a half months 😣 i know! It is a short period of time but it just gives me anxiety and frustrates me to be bleeding for almost a month straight and having my face full of little pimples. It is making my self esteem worse than it already was. Should i go to a dermatologist and see what i can do? But i know the breakouts are due to the iud.

Go to a dermatologist for sure. The IUD has less hormones and they’re localized so they don’t circulate as much so it could just be how your body would be if it didn’t have the extra hormones and it’s best to get to the bottom of it with a derm. The adjustment period for the IUD is 6 months to a year so I would wait it out honestly. I love my IUD and I found something that worked for my skin and I don’t get periods anymore either. I know everyone reacts differently but you should give your body more time to adjust. Even if you go back on the pill you’ll have to adjust again.

@katara_ did you have breakouts at the beginning? I used to have acne and it was hormonal. I took accutane and it cleared it out. But now it is coming back :( i will go see a derm then. See what they think. Maybe they will prescribe topical creams. What worked for your skin? And what iud do you have?

Well I first had the Paragard, which has no hormones, and I broke out like crazy. My mom has always dealt with acne so I knew that I was just prone to it and that the pill had kept it at bay. I used antibiotics and a topical cream and that worked but I was so tired of having to take pills every day so I got the Mirena IUD and I use Curology now. My acne has gotten better with both but I’m just acne prone and do still get breakouts. The pill is really good at keeping acne at bay because it’s a larger dose of hormones and with how they’re metabolized they affect your skin more.

@katara_ i was told I can’t get the mirena since i have no kids yet. I have heard of curology. Man! I used to love the pill, but my dr. made the IUD sound so good, i kinda regret it. I will go see the derm who helped my friend and hopefully it helps.

If your doctor said you can’t get it because you don’t have kids, get a new doctor! It’s absolutely false and doctors that say that are being biased and letting their personal opinions affect their work. Which IUD do you have?

@katara_ wow wtf! Also i chose the Skyla and when it was my day of insertion she brought the kyleena in. I said i chose Skyla and she said “oh well, but kyleena and skyla are the same but this one is for 5 years” so basically i felt cornered and said “ok then”. 🙄

That’s definitely not okay! They shouldn’t make you feel pressured at all. See a derm and maybe get a new doctor that helps you make informed decisions instead of making them for you. I absolutely love my IUD and I’ve had two and recommend them to everyone. But they don’t work out for everyone. Your period may go away with time as well as your acne but if after you see your derm and wait a little you still feel like the pill is best for you then definitely switch! Everyone reacts differently and has birth control methods that better suit them.

@katara_ I will see a derm and see if it helps. I think I will talk to my primary care provider since the midwife who was part of this whole process made me feel pressured. I asked for a OBGYN but i got a midwife instead. I dont know if that is still good?
