Hi I’ve only just started the contraceptive pill ( microgynon 30 ) and I have taken my first two packs back to pack as I didn’t want the bleeding after the first pack due to doing something that week, but I’ve now got a week left of pills in my 2nd pack and I’ve started to bleed like a regular period so not just spotting or light bleeding. Could someone advise me if this is normal and how long it’s likely to last, what should I do next? Thank you so much any help is appreciated x

This is normal. It can take a while for your body to adjust to the hormones, usually 3-6 months. There’s no telling how long the bleeding will last or if it will get lighter/heavier. It shouldn’t be anything to worry about, but if you are concerned about it then you could also go to the doctors.

Sometimes skipping your break week pills can trigger break through bleeding. Any bleeding during your active pills is break through bleeding. Break through bleeding is a side effect of the pill. Break through bleeding is completely normal. Break through bleeding can occur at anytime for any length of time no matter how long you have been on your brand. Break through bleeding can be any flow type. It can be light to heavy flow. Since you are still new to taking birth control your body will need to adjust to your brand. There is a 3-6 month adjustment period. If after the adjustment period you are still not happy with the brand you are on you can go back to your doctor and ask to be put on another brand. Know that every time you change your brand your body will need to adjust to the new brand which is another 3-6 month adjustment period.
