Had sex today and missed my pill the 30, 16, and 17 of last month. We used a condom so I thought it would be fine but it broke. What should I do

If you’ve taken more than 8 pills consecutively then you’re protected

Dec 4
22:34
If you've taken 8 ACTIVE pills consecutively then you're protected. If you haven't taken 8 active pills yet then consult your pamphlet to see if you need emergency contraception.

22:39
No because I missed the 30th

I am on Junel fe 1/20

The 30th was 3 pills ago so I have only taken 3 consecutively

22:44
Oh god I don’t know what to do

Check your pamphlet. If it says you are unprotected then get emergency contraception.

Get emergency contraception from gp or pharmacy

It says if one tablet is missed take tablet as soon as you remember and take the next tablet at regular time

Dec 4
22:56
I did not take the tablet as soon as I remembered on the 30th I just took the one on the 1st regular time

Dec 4
22:57
It always say if two consecutive tablets are missed week one or week two take two tablets as soon as you remember and take two the next day and use other birth control methods for seven days

Dec 4
22:58
What week was the missed pill in?

Dec 4

@sams2095 1st week 5th day

If it was first week I would take Plan b. This {rXPXUr2DV} may help explain.

My main concern is not knowing if I am pregnant because I don’t not bleed on my type of pill. I haven’t in a year or so.

Dec 4
23:14
If you're concerned take a home pregnancy test in 3 weeks. They're most accurate if you take them first thing in the morning.

You don’t need to take a plan b if you missed a pill in week one, the same thing happened to me this morning. The pamphlet says the same thing as yours and no extra back up method is needed

Just take it as soon as you remember and take the second one at the regular time (you’ll take two pills in one day) and continue the rest of the pack

I just went to three stores looking for plan b and every single one was out. I can try more tomorrow but what do I do tonight? Should I take two pills tonight?

@k5769 you don’t need a plan b it has a lot of hormones & can mess up your body for a while. If you missed a pill in week one, and your pamphlet allows for a missed pill (same thing that’s happening to me I’m on Ortho Tri cyclen lo) you’ll just have to double up! Take the first pill as soon as you remember, and take the next one at the same time. NO BACKUP IS NEEDED. Also, if you’re unsure call your pharmacist and explain the situation, I did the same and she just told me I did not need plan b and no extra backup but just to double up. I hope this puts your stress at ease :( If you’re still unsure I’d call the gynecologist first thing tomorrow morning and she will probably tell you the same thing :)

@ufonora So should I take two pills right now or wait till my normal time I take a pill?

Dec 5
00:49
@k5769 follow your pamphlets instructions. If it says to take the missed pill as soon as you remember and you haven't taken it yet, then take it.

@Sams2095 agreed. Take the first one now and take the next one at the regular time

Thank you ladies! I just took the first one and I will take the next at regular time. Sorry I was so confused, it’s hard to concentrate when I’m stressed lol.

You missed the pill 4 days ago, making it up now won’t do anything

Here's a post with some more info by the lovely and knowledgeable @beesandhoney that offers more explanation on when Plan b is needed. ⚪️ Previous Sex, Do I Need Plan B?⚪️ If you miss a pill, you might consider Emergency Contraception in the event that: 💊 You have not correctly taken 7 active pills prior to the missed pill (perhaps you are in week 1 if your pack). Your chance of becoming pregnant from previous sex depends on how many pills have been missed, where in the pack they were missed, and if pills thereafter are taken correctly/ break week is skipped when necessary. As long as you have taken 7 active pills prior to the missed pill, and you continue to take your pills correctly, you do not need EC. And it is worth mentioning that anytime you miss only 1 pill, even in week 1, the risk is very low. Most professional health organizations would only recommend EC if you missed 2 or more pills in Week 1.

@Sams2095 ^^ I had sex yesterday and missed my pill yesterday had to double up, so I wouldn’t need to take a plan b. My question is, why is there a suggestion to tell people to take a plan b when in reality they don’t need to if the pamphlet says they can miss a pill? Educate me y’all I’m lowkey scared

So really it's up to you to determine if you think Plan B is necessary. Generally a single missed pill on the combined pill is pretty low risk. But week one is the worst time to miss a pill.
1
Dec 5
01:04
@ufonora because the combined pill needs 7 active days in order to shut down ovulation in most women. Week one is the worst time to miss a pill because you don't have 7 active pills taken previously. While it's considered low risk, it is not the same as missing pills in week 2 or 3 when you have had 7+ active pills taken correctly. Pamphlets tend to use different varying guidelines because some are more cautious in their advice than others. Generally speaking, all combined pills are pretty similar, so it's up to you what level of risk you're comfortable with.

Okay so plan of action here. So I took a pill a bit ago but I still have one I’m supposed to take in a couple of hours at regular time. Should I take that second pill AND go get plan b tomorrow

@Sams2095 damn...so why would my pharmacist tell I’m fine when in reality I could be fine but not really? Smh.

Here's a more well researched, in depth, and scientific explanation by @beesandhoney if you're interested. I know I'm not the best at explaining this, so hopefully these links help! How many combined pills are necessary to stop ovulation? {Og28Ur2e6} How the combined pill works: {SG28Ur2L2}

@ufonora and it does depend on where in the pack you missed the pill. And what type of pill you're on. A couple like Qlaira and mini pills are different than most combined pills.

I would just be concerned because OP didn’t double up the day after the missed pill. It might be fine to miss a pill in week one if you take it as soon as you remember like the pamphlet instructs, but OP didn’t.

She basically took a one day break after only taking 3 pills which isn’t enough to be protected.

Dec 5

@Sams2095 I missed week one day 3 normally when I take it at 7pm but I woke up today and took it at 7am (I have a 12 hour window but I also took it 12 hours and 17 minuets late idk how insane my protection went down) I did double up and took my pill at the same time. I was just concerned about why plan b is needed but I guess because your hormones decrease every hour?

Week one day 4*

Dec 5
01:31
My chances are very low though, right? I mean I’m still going to take plan b as soon as possible, but I am still a bit worried

Dec 5
03:06
So taking the pill as soon as you remember is important (especially if that's what your pamphlet instructs) because the jump in hormones can help prevent ovulation. So since you didn't follow your pamphlets instructions for a missed pill in week one I would take Plan b. @k5769

@ufonora 17 mins past 12 hours is barely past your usage window. Plus you took it as the pamphlet instructed ("take it as soon as you remember."), so your pharmacist and pamphlet have provided accurate info. You most likely don't need Plan b. @k5769 didn't follow her pamphlets instructions for a missed pill ("take the missed pill as soon as you remember") so that's somewhat different than your missed pill.

And thanks to @aurielle for pointing that out. I totally spaced out that @k5769 didn't take it after it was missed.

If you’re on combination pill and in 8 days+/- only miss one pill (even if in the first week as long as you didn’t have an unprotected break week) then if you double up the NEXT day, you’ll still be protected. Because you didn’t double up the next day you’re unprotected and need plan b, you shouldn’t double up on pills now {uDRGpr2mQ}

If you had skipped your break week after you missed the two pills before, and therefore made up your protection again, and then doubled up the day after missing a pill on the 30th - you’d have still been protected.

Just for update I did take plan b this morning as soon as I could. Going to not stress about it and see in three weeks if I think I might be pregnant.
