Recently found out my best friend cheated on his boyfriend and I can’t help but feel disappointed /: I never thought he was that type of person. His boyfriend is such a good guy I feel so bad

Personally I couldn’t be friends with someone who cheats :( my old friend cheated on her bf at the time and I couldn’t help but doubt her morals. She’s an old friend for that very reason

TW - abuse ^I personally disagree with ending a friendship/distancing yourself over them cheating once, everyone makes mistakes and it’s not like they did anything to hurt you. I think what counts is whether he owns up to that mistake and does what he can to make it right now. One mistake doesn’t define a person. Disclaimer - it’s obviously different if they do something abusive.

Agree with @Awg1. Everyone will have different personal opinions about this but cheating is usually more complex than just being a bad person (it is still a bad thing to do.) I'm personally very loyal to my friends and will stick with them through mistakes and personal failings, up to a point, because that's what friendship means to me. On the flip side I would not advise a friend to stay with someone who cheated. But again it's down to personal beliefs.

And to clarify further it was something she did in every single one of her relationships :(

Unfortunately, cheating isn’t as black and white as we would like it to be. It’s definitely something that is wrong and shouldn’t be done but the reasons as to why someone might cheat are a lot more complicated than “they’re a bad person”.
