Hi guys I really need help. So on Thursday September 3rd I began taking the antibiotic metronidazole & my doctor informed me that any antibiotic could reduce the effectiveness of my pill & I should use condoms for the next full week while I was taking the antibiotic & the full week after that because the antibiotic could still be in my system. So September 10th was my last day taking the antibiotic pill & September 17th would mark a full week after that so I would be good to have comdomless sex after the 17th. But, I started my break week on September 11th, so since my pills weren’t effective for the full week before the 11th I am not protected on my break week correct? I need to take a full week of active pills after my break week for my protection to kick back in correct? Sorry if that’s confusing, I tried to explain best I could. Ask questions if you need to I can clear up any confusion.

Yeah I think you’re right, but maybe check with your doctor or use condoms until you feel safer after another week of pills

No you’re fine only rifabutin and rifampicin antibiotics effect the pill anyway! Many doctors give out inaccurate info on the pills so always do your own research, the NHS website is very reliable x

But if you’re protection is ever actually effected you’d need to take 7+ ACTIVE pills to be protected again as placebo pills (the ones you have on a break) don’t contain any hormones.

@Awg1 okay so my effectiveness wasn’t reduced ? Wow. I wonder why my doctor would even tell me that. Definitely gonna do my own research. Thank you !!

@braychasem They always say it as a precaution but it’s bad many doctors don’t know some of the basics of the pill! Here’s where that specific info is {KALbDhx7f} and here’s a {wALbDhxkS} I did which shows you where to find most the info you need to know on the combined pill x
