What can I expect when I come off of birth control? I feel like this gets asked a lot, so I just wanted to compile some info :) If anyone can think of anything else or something that I missed, please comment down below! TW for eating/ weight When you come off of birth control… •it can take up to a year for your natural period to regulate, so missed periods, periods that are lighter or heavier than you had before birth control is normal •your period may change and may not be the same length/ heaviness as it was before you started birth control •you may experience mood changes, changes in appetite and/or weight •you may experience cramping, with or without bleeding, brown discharge (old oxidized blood) •it is possible to get pregnant right away! Make sure to use condoms or some other form of birth control if you do not want to get pregnant

Thank you for this! Just want to add a personal experience. When I came off the patch a while ago my periods were super regular until about 9months after coming off, my periods were super late and much different than they were before, so during that year adjustment you can still experience side effects even if periods have been regular!

@nikeyxo No problem! I’ve been seeing posts like at least once or twice a week about users asking for info about coming off birth control, figured it would be easier to have an entire post dedicated to it. Thank you for adding!

Basically I usually tell people that any of the hormonal side effects you can experience while on birth control, you may experience when coming off it (because of the changes in hormones) so changes in acne, irregular bleeding, bloating etc
