Hello! I just started on birth control and I’m worried about when my period will come because when I wasn’t on it, my cycle would usually be around 27 or 28 days. But because birth control pills are 21 days, will it cause me to have irregular spotting and stuff? I know it takes the body a whole to adjust but I just want to know if anyone who has experienced this will know. I just started and haven’t gotten through a full 21 days yet. Thanks!

Irregular bleeding is a very common side effect of the pill, particularly in the first 3-6 months of being on it. So it’s possible but there’s no way to know. You’ll have to wait and see how it goes

@Mickeymouse1 I started my birth control the first day of my period (8/1/19) my period normally last 4 days but after the 4th day I began to have irregular bleeding until exactly a week when I got my period then it stopped. It’s a normal side effect.

@Mickeymouse1 if you want the irregular bleeding to stop I suggest trying ginger tea using an all natural ginger it does speed up the process

Any bleeding during your active pills is break through bleeding. Break through bleeding is a side effect of the pill. Break through bleeding is completely normal. Break through bleeding can occur at anytime for any length of time no matter how long you have been on your brand. Since you are still new to taking your brand your body will need to adjust to being on the pill. There is a 3-6 month adjustment period. If you are still not happy with the brand you are on you can go back to your doctor and ask to be put on another brand. Know that every time you change your brand your body will need to adjust to the new brand which is another 3-6 month adjustment period.
