For all the Brazilian waxers folks: The salons in my area are closed due to lockdown (for good reason) and I’m overdue for a Brazilian. Any recommendations on substituting a wax? I’ve been waxing for over 8 years now and don’t want to lose my progress 😢 I also don’t want to shave because I’m horrible with razors and it always grows back itchy. I would love your thoughts on trimming or epilating or self-waxing. I have a wax machine and hard wax that I use for my under arms and other small places but I’ve never waxed down there myself.

I had the same problem and I ended up just doing it myself ! I went with a natural waxing method called sugaring , which can get sticky and takes more time than I would have liked but once you get the motion of it , it wasn’t too bad . I literally went in the order that my wax specialist goes in for the actual method , the trick is to apply against the grain and then pull in the direction of the grain . Also if a particular part hurts more than other parts then do smaller pieces and also apply slight pressure to the area with the other hand . Hopefully that helps!

Ooh that’s a great idea. I’ve never tried sugaring before. Do you make your own sugar? Any tips and tricks you can offer in terms of making my own sugar? @yOurstruely

I made my own , I used 1 cup of regular sugar , 2 tbsp of water , 1 tsp of salt , and 2-3 tsp of lemon juice . So I put all those ingredients into a pot and stirred them together then turned on the heat on med/low and I kept stirring and stirring until you see bubbles start to form which is good but keep stirring and moving the mixture otherwise you’ll get lumps . Then when the mixture is a pale straw color you remove the mixture from the pot . I had put regular wax paper on top of a flat baking sheet and I poured the mixture on there to cool . Make sure you let it cool down before you attempt to use it on yourself , otherwise it will be too hot and will burn you. After about 6-7 minutes I started by grabbing the edges of the wax paper and putting the mixtures onto itself creating a ball , I made sure it was safe temperature wise and went on my way . You probably will only need about half of the sugar you actually make since the more product the more tricky it is to master how to work it . What I’ve figured out is that bigger , thicker amounts of sugar applied , it tends to grab big amounts of the course hairs while thinner amounts grab the smaller and thin hairs . Like I said before apply against the grain , pull with the grain . Small fast motions help me and apply pressure in the parts that hurt the most for you. Use a mirror to help guide you and make sure to shower / rinse off with warm water more on the cooler side side to help close the pores . Exfoliating the day before also helps , lotions on the day after for the moisture . Best of luck!

You can wax yourself with the hard wax but please be super super careful with applying and removing also dont forget to skin stretch, i have seen so many clients come in with botched home jobs and it isnt pretty nor fun for the client with grazing or burns! And please dont apply aby regular lotion for about 24 hours afterwards as you can irritate the area, just aloe vera gel will work fine and help soothe If you arent comfortable just trimming will be fine and you wont loose your progress
