Hey I’m freaking out and need some advice/reassurance. I’ve been on birth control for about 2 months now. I’ve experienced break through bleeding 2 weeks after I first started it. I do not get my period on the break pills. I’ve only went through the 1st break pills the next round will be in 2 weeks. A little over a week ago I had sex for the first time with my boyfriend. We used a condom but it broke and I found a piece in me the next morning. I talked to my bf about it and he said he did not cum. The next day I took the pill 3.5 hours later than I usually do. This is the 1st time I ever took it late at all whatsoever. 2 days ago I starting spitting again marking a month from my last break through bleeding. Last time it lasted 5 days- like how my period usually is but this time it only was for 2 days. I know this can be a sign of pregnancy so I’m a little worried. I know he didn’t finish but I’ve heard Precum can still get you pregnant and then condom piece was inside me over night. I am new at this so I’m totally scared. If anyone can help me please lmk if I will be okay!! Thanks.

Don’t worry breakthrough bleeding and missing a period is completely normal on the pill, especially in the adjustment period (3 months). If you’re on the combination pill you have a 12 hour window in which you can take your pill and be protected, so even if your bf finished inside you, you will not get pregnant. Read your pamphlet, learn how to take your pill correctly accounting for things like sickness, missing pills, antibiotics, etc. and read up on side affects and how it works so that you can trust it more. Don’t get freaked out by ‘pregnancy symptoms’ either, the side affects on the pill are the same, you only need to take a test if you have took your pill incorrectly and had unprotected sex or if you miss two consecutive periods.

Yes everything @Awg1 said. Breakthrough bleeding is all completely normal side effects of the pill - especially when you're new to taking it. It can take 3-6 months for your body to get used to a new pill, so hopefully in a month or so the breakthrough bleeding should settle down.
