So I just had an appointment with the nurse to get a refill prescription, I take my pills back to back with no break and she said I should be taking a break at least every three months to prevent blood clots...however from what I know the hormones in the pill do not build up and the NHS recently came out and said that break weeks have no benefit and were only added for acceptance of BC. So what I’m wondering is; is there any scientific research/logic which shows that what she said is true? I did a little research myself and couldn’t find anything, I found an article (which is very interesting I recommend reading it) which didn’t show any significant change in risk of blood clots {niBSXNxl3}

I took pills back to back for three months and when I had told the nurse about it, she said the exact thing that your nurse said. Which is why I haven’t done it again. Even though I prefer no break week. Btw did you have heightened side effects because of the no break week?

The only thing I’ve ever thought about is the NHS website about combined pills, it says it’s safe to take packets back to back but ideally to only take 2 then have a break. I think that was only to do with avoiding breakthrough bleeding tho! I’ve always heard mixed things about whether skipping many breaks in a row is a problem or not🤔

I don’t think there is to be honest, a lot of doctors, nurses and pharmacists are extremely misinformed about birth control. And of course- you can’t expect them to know everything about every medication but it would be nice if there would be more accurate information on the matter. My doctor is very educated on birth control and I learned a lot from him, he never told me anything about a heightened chance or risk from blood clots when you continuously take packs, he even recommends doing so if you’re comfortable with it. However: he has told me going off and back on constantly can heighten the chance of blood clots.

^ to add to that I usually take 6-7 packs continuously before having a break because I will usually experience breakthrough bleeding around that time if I don’t.

@yi_eune I thought so just wanted to make sure I haven’t missed anything for next time I go in cause I don’t want to sound like one of those anti-vaxer people who ignore doctors/science and think they know it all haha😂 It’s so annoying having to explain yourself to them when you know they’re giving misinformation!

@sunkissed I did in the first few months but after my body just got used to know breaks down now I have way less side effects! The article also says in the study they did the amount of breakthrough bleeding decreased after the first few months of taking continuously. @girlygirl15 the article I linked showed there were no real problems!

Always a good idea to do your own research and evaluate the information you're given critically 👏🏾
