Sorry for the random and unrelated post, but it’s 5 am here and I don’t have anyone else to contact at the moment. My puppy is couching and making a sound as if he wants to vomit, without actually vomiting. Does anyone know what it is and if I should contact a doctor? He’s supposed to go in for his 12-week vaccinations (second round) on Thursday. He’s now sleeping in a blanket and very calm, he only coughs when he gets excited and starts playing. Bit worried here 😔

Where did you get him? Shelter / breeding facility? It could just be kennel cough or a similar infection

From an acquaintance, her Frenchie had puppies. So he went from home to another home. They did have 2 other dogs and a few cats if that is of any relevance, and 2 other puppies. I’ve only had him for 2 days now

He may just have a cold, I would try to keep him relatively calm until his vet visit. Also frenchies w their squished nose can sometimes have breathing problems, so that could just be from that

is it actually a cough, or is it like wheezing? my dog does that when he gets too excited

The Frenchie breed is one of the breeds that are more susceptible to breathing problems and allergies or skin problems. They tend to have a sensitive stomach as well. I have a friend who has a Frenchie and you can always hear his breathing it kind of sounds like a pig like oinking sound, but in dog form. Are you positive that it’s coughing?

I put a blanket on him and he’s resting now and seems fine. I will ask the doctor tomorrow to do a checkup as well just to be sure. But it could be that he was just very excited about playing with his new toys, he was constantly running around. I’m very careful with perfumes/scented candles in the house and with his food 😊

Debating with myself now if I should get the membership again to post puppy pictures 🤔
